Cranial-sacral
The cranial-sacral system links the cranium, spine, and sacrum by a membrane of connective tissue deep inside the body called the dura mater. The dura mater also encloses the brain and the central nervous system. Movement of the cerebral spinal fluid within the dura mater is called the cranial-sacral rhythm. Light touch balances this rhythm helping the fluid to move freely and triggering the body's natural healing response.
Thai
Thai is a blend of massage and assisted yoga postures. In Thailand its called Nuat phaen boran.
Reiki
is a bit of an enigma. Its history is rich and disciplined, but its introduction outside Japan was fraught with fantasy and fallacy. As a result many have been on guard against it, the Catholic church has called it “superstition” and banned reiki in Catholic hospitals, and there is an air of negativity surrounding its use. Despite its bad rep, I have found that this most gentle technique is useful in cases where the muscles will not soften or yield, or there is much pain with touch. Reiki is excellent for relieving anxiety and inflammation, especially from that of chemotherapy. I used reiki extensively on my own father which gave him much relief. I use a modified version devoid of symbols or rituals.
Rattan Rollers
and other massage implements -one inch thick Rattan sticks are used like a rolling pin to gently soften areas such as the back of the thighs or the soles of the feet. Compression with the end of the stick provides a more diffuse pressure with less pain. Gentle percussion is sometimes performed with the sticks. Other tools may also be used from time to time. All implements are manual. No electric or electronic devices are used.
